STATE OF EXPECTATION immerses the audience in heartfelt, thrilling, dramatic and entertaining insightful dialogues about the need and value of providing accessibility to governance through regular civic engagement with the populace. This film is the first of its kind ever produced by a Nigerian out of Nigeria, a sharp contrast from what an average person perceives as a documentary seen on Television. This is a filmic storytelling at its best, a creative treatment of actuality, real life actions in real time. A factual representation.

Director Larry.A. Shogbamimu produced the project under HAPPY AS LARRY FILMS banner in conjunction with GOOS MEDIA CONCEPTS. To help, he brought in award-winning Filmmaker and Creative Advocate Karen Everett, with other team members; Todd Dayton – Editor, Boban Krsmanovic – Animation, Brett Johansen & Santosh Raju – Motion Graphics, Ayodele Smith & Oluwakayode Adeyemi-Kayne – Cinematographers, Mike Gunn – Music, Sheila Maniar – Researcher, Patrick Kieley – Trailer Editor.

Larry.A. Shogbamimu set out on this journey after noticing a news interview that got him so upset and decided to confront people in leadership on the issue of corruption and good governance. Heartbroken and angered by the news interview stating “Nigeria which could be the most corrupt nation in the world”,  Larry sets out against this backdrop of stereotypical negative perception of Nigeria, the film introduces global audiences to Nigeria in an enriching and empathetic manner. A 76 minute documentary feature film that tracks the activities of a Nigerian politician. Filmed over the course of seven years, the film follows the journey of a young African leader Babatunde Raji Fashola governor of Lagos State-Nigeria in his desperate bid to bring prosperity, he embarks on a major quest to build the first mass transit light rail system in the whole of sub-saharan Africa with the intent that it will lead to an unprecedented level of economic activities with the rest of Africa and beyond. Amidst criticisms, natural disasters and a challenging democratic process, this film reveals and demonstrates the struggles and efforts people are making towards building their environment and a new face of leadership in a country where politics is synonymous with corruption and ineffectiveness. Larry becomes exposed to the incredible challenges facing these leaders, something taken for granted by those being led. This unsettled feeling is conveyed in this film to stimulate discourse and wake people up to start holding their leaders to account for their actions.

Although Larry is not a familiar face within the Nigerian filmmaking scene, Larry is no stranger to the screen. He has produced numerous episodes of HAPPY AS LARRY SHOW for BEN Television London. Larry has a knack for connecting, communicating, and hustling with gratitude, humility and love. Passionate about educating and advocating for things he believes in. Larry is a documentarian by practice with a masters degree in documentary filmmaking. Larry has traveled across the length and breadth of Nigeria. He shot a film in the Niger delta where he was irritated by the lack of clean drinking water despite being surrounded by water. He promised himself that one day he will help poor communities with the provision of clean drinking water and now he wants to fulfill that self made promise by channeling proceeds from this film towards his “Give me Water” project to build water wells.

Larry hopes STATE OF EXPECTATION creates a shift in mindset for a more participatory inclusive world of open access to governance, the populace taking charge of governance and holding their leaders to high standards.
